The Griffith Taylor Memorial Award
The late Griffith Taylor founded the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto in 1935, and served as its Chair from 1935 to 1951. He was a scholar who conceived and promoted geography as a synthesis of disciplines and who, accordingly, was a man ahead of his time. In his honour, UTAGA established this memorial award to recognize outstanding academic achievement. The Griffith Taylor Award is presented to an outstanding student graduating from a four-year program with either a major or specialist in geography, who has exhibited all-round excellence over the course of the program.
