Biography

Dr. Mashrur Rahman is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Mobility Network, Department of Geography and Planning. He earned his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Dr. Rahman’s research program investigates how transportation infrastructure and land-use systems affect travel behavior. At the core of his work is the vision of creating cities and urban infrastructure that promotes sustainable and equitable transportation. To achieve this, Dr. Rahman’s work focuses on strategies to reduce automobile travel, promote active modes of walking and cycling, public transit, and design multimodal urban transportation systems. His current research explores the potential of emerging mobility services—such as bike-sharing, electric cargo bikes, demand responsive transit (DRT), and transportation network companies (TNC)—to reduce traditional car use and the socio-economic and environmental ramifications of these mobility innovations. Dr. Rahman has contributed to several federal- and state-funded transportation research projects in the USA, Canada, and Bangladesh. His scholarly works have appeared in top-tiered peer-reviewed journals, including Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part D: Transportation and Environment, Travel Behavior and Society, and Journal of Public Transportation.

Dr. Mashrur Rahman has contributed to enhancing student success through teaching and mentoring. He taught planning courses such as sustainable land use planning (UT Austin), public economics & finance (UT Austin), housing (BUET), GIS (BUET), transportation planning (BUET), and social survey methods (BUET). He received prestigious awards such as the Fulbright Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Prime Minister Gold Medal Award from the Government of Bangladesh.
