Biography :

I am a former Ontario public servant having served over 20 years in a number of ministries at a senior level. The bulk of my work while a public servant was in policy and planning particularly in the areas of urban and regional economic development, urban and regional innovation systems, and urban and regional growth management. I have a particular interest in the role government policy plays in urban and regional economies especially in the context of innovation.

Prior to joining the Ontario public service, I was a Senior Consultant with a UK-based economic development consultancy where I led the creation of economic development and innovation strategies at the local and regional levels in Canada, and internationally including, the United States, and across the European Union.

In addition to teaching in the Department of Geography on the St. George Campus, I teach in the Masters of Urban Innovation programme in the Institute for Management and Innovation at UTM, and at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. I am also an Associate of the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School.

When not engaged in academic pursuits, I am an avid runner and I am currently Vice-Chair of the Ontario Masters Council of Athletics Ontario, the governing body for track and field athletics in Ontario, and I sit on the board of Canadian Masters Athletics, the governing body for masters’ track and field athletics in Canada.
