2018 Friends of Planning Spring Social – April 12, 2018
April 12, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The University of Toronto Planning Alumni Committee and the Department of Geography & Planning invite alumni, faculty and fellow city builders to enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres, each other’s company and, especially, a keynote address on a pivotal planning topic.
This year we are pleased to have Elliott Cappell, the City of Toronto’s Chief Resilience Officer, as our keynote speaker.
Toronto is one of 100 Resilient Cities around the globe, where innovative leadership, catalyst for change, diverse interests and strong partnerships building form the foundation of cutting edge work to tackle the waves of change that are felt locally and around the world. Elliott Cappell will share insights on what we know about the role of planning and development in resilience and what we will have yet to learn.
The UofT Planning Alumni Committee is comprised of volunteer members. All proceeds from this event are used to enrich the learning experiences of graduate planning students and foster connections between students and the professional planning community.
Elliott Cappell is the Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Toronto, leading the development of Toronto’s Resilience Strategy and the City’s participation in the global 100 Resilient Cities network. Elliott is a native Torontonian who has also worked in over 20 countries, including in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. His local knowledge and global outlook both serve his work to prepare Toronto to be strong through shocks and stresses facing cities in the 21st Century.
