COBS-SWO-Standard Greenlands 2004

Context: This geodatabase is derived from the orginal data collected and analyzed by Gartner Lee Limited for the Neptis report entitled, The State of Greenlands Protection in South-Central Ontario. Assessing the security of all greenland features that are designated by a local, provincial or federal policy, the researchers assigned a protection level from 1 (highest) to 4 (lowest) to each greenland feature in the study area based policies and their experience with cases brought to the Ontario Municipal Board.  The data set is designed to show the level of protection for all greenlands at a regional scale. The data sets are organized and stored by upper-tier municipality although a data set is available for the entire study area.

Process: Much of the tabular information in the original data sets were removed from this generalized version, including type of greenland feature, the specific policy of protection and the authority that granted the protection.  This was done so that the greenlands data could be aggregated to the four levels of protection and the line work could be generalized for mapping purposes.  The original line work is extremely detailed and slow to render or draw.

Coverage Area: Greater Golden Horseshoe (missing Haldimand and Brant Counties)
